What is YODAH?

YODAH stands for the Youth of Ditchling and Hassocks.

Who is it for?

YODAH is for any young people from 8 years and up, though there is a lot of cross-over with younger brothers and sisters, and that's totally okay!

Who runs the group? Do parents have to come too?

Gary Pickett is our Youth Worker, and he runs all the YODAH events, along with a team of DBS checked volunteers.  Older children can attend on their own, however we do ask for parents to stay with younger children (under 5s).

What kind of things/activities does YODAH do? How often does it meet, and where?

In the Beacon Parish Gary runs the YODAH SCHOOLS club at Ditchling Primary School (for Yrs 4-6),  We also have YODAH YOUTH at St Margarets Church on Tuesdays 18.15 - 20.00 with a full range of activities and also puts on special events such as the film club.

What if I don't normally come to Church? What if I'm not sure I believe in God? Is it all about Church stuff and praying?

We know that young people need spaces of their own to relax and build friendships. YODAH helps to provide these spaces to any young person, of any faith or background, and so they are not specifically focused on God or Church stuff, but we do have a short discussion slot each week. There will be opportunities for them to ask questions, or to join in other, more specific Church activities, but they grow from getting to know Gary and the team.

Can I just come along?

If you are a young person and want to join one of our activities you can just turn up. We would only very rarely ask you to book a place, and only if we have a limit on numbers or needed to buy tickets for something.

I'm a carer/parent OR I'd like to help. How do I get involved?

If you are an adult and are interested in volunteering at a specific event, or as part of the wider team, please contact Gary via the Office.  Please be aware that you will need to be DBS checked as part of our Safeguarding policy.
